Christianity & Yoga: According to Yoga there are 6 Stages to attain peace according to Hinduism. Each stage ?

represented by a Hindu God and a Hindu Name of the place (Circle) It is called Shat(Six)Chakra(Circle/state) theory. Yoga leads through these states. If a Christian does yoga for other reasons also, since it follows the above theory, He has to accept the state and the gods of the stages. Hence my question is whether the Biblical scripture accepts this or not?

If YOGA IS defined as an Physical exercise or aerobic and meditation, this question will not be applicable, irrespective of religion etc. If YOGA literally taken into consideration as YOGA of the above theory, my doubt is that whether the book accepts it or not.

You don’t understand yoga to begin with. I’m not sure if you are referring to the “shatkarmas” which are hygiene and purification tasks (some strange and extreme) in traditional hatha yoga such as cleaning you nose or tongue, or taking enemas.

I don’t even know if you are referring to chakras in reference to circles –which are symbolic plexuses in the body (really in the brain and mind) that have certain themes to work through in spiritual practice. In Tantric Hinduism, they are associated with lots of symbols and with deities, but it would take a very long time to explain it all. There ARE equivalents in the western tradition–including in medieval esoteric Christian spirituality. The centers are associated with the gifts of the spirit and the wounds of Christ. You will not find this in the scriptures, though.

There are various types of yoga in Hinduism and Buddhism, and Yoga Philosophy in itself is separate from Hinduism and Buddhism. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali is Yoga Philosophy and relates how to concentrate and then meditate to become enlightened and “merge with” God. This yoga is called Raja yoga.

The Bhagavad Gita defines 3 yogas: Jnana, Karma, and Bhakti. Jnana is realization of God through knowledge (study and contemplation and meditation), Karma yoga is the discipline of selfless work as devotion and service to God. Bhakti yoga is pure devotionalism (praising God and being devoted to one’s idea of God).

Hatha Yoga is about perfecting the body to perfect the spiritual and overcoming the body. Other forms of yoga combine physical conditioning with moral precepts and observances, and spiritual training either to have an experience of God or to perfect and spiritualize oneself.

Prayer techincally is a form of yoga, participating in a prayer meeting is a form of yoga , working in a soup kitchen because you’re being a good Christian is a form of yoga. But if you just practice breathng and physical yoga exercises–without understanding or going further into the spiritual aspect then, it is the same as doing stretching or calisthenic exercises.
